NaPoWriMo 2021 Day 20

Untitled by Larry Mawby

here, now, i send a prayer,

an entreaty, to the

young maple tree outside my window.

forgive me, forgive us all,

for though we knew, we did not act,

and through our casual inaction

we have imperiled your future.

i pray as a child does,

seeking accommodation

in exchange for actions that should

and must be done regardless.

your future and the future of

all life now here on this earth

has been risked by our failure

to care for our planet.

i seek your forgiveness in a spirit

of brotherhood, and vow to mend

my ways. young maple tree, hear

my entreaty and accept it.
